Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) Assessments

We offer assessments for Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). To assist us in the assessment process, we ask that you complete all paperwork and questionnaires that you receive in advance. It's also helpful if you can clearly communicate the specific questions you want answered during the appointment.

The assessment is individually tailored to each person's presentation and needs. It typically includes a client interview and assessment, either conducted individually or with a significant other present. The specific assessment tools and structure used will depend on what is deemed most appropriate for assessing the client's condition. This may involve a neurodevelopmental interview, ADOS 2 (Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule), ADI-R (Autism Diagnostic Interview-Revised), or other relevant measures.

Additionally, if possible, we may offer an appointment for a family member, partner, or caregiver to be interviewed by one of our clinicians. This helps gather information about early developmental history, difficulties in social interaction and communication, challenges with change and special interests, functioning at home, in education, or in employment, sensory differences, and past and current physical and mental health conditions.

During the assessment, the clinician will discuss various aspects with you, including difficulties with social communication and friendships, your interests and activities, other challenges you may face (such as anxiety, coping with change, planning, and organizational skills), sensory differences, and any other information that may aid in the diagnosis process.

After the assessment, the clinician will write a detailed report that will inform you of the diagnosis, indicating whether Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) is present. You will then be offered a follow-up appointment with the clinician to provide feedback, go through the report, discuss the diagnosis and its implications, address the support you may require, and address any concerns you may have.

It is recommended that you bring a family member with you to this follow-up appointment for support and to help understand the feedback provided.

For further information, we recommend visiting the NICE (National Institute for Health and Care Excellence) guidelines on the assessment and diagnosis of Autism Spectrum Disorder. Additionally, you can find additional information about ASD on The National Autistic Society's website at www.autism.org.uk.

Please note that the booking fee is non-refundable, as it ensures your commitment to the scheduled appointment time and helps us manage our appointments effectively.
